Image comes from an WWI era French Arts Journal; This particular illustration was published in remembrance of the French poet and playwright, Guillaume Apollinaire. The graphic depicts Apollinaire dressed in army fatigues with a bandaged head due to a shrapnel wound acquired during his service with the French army during World War I - he is surrounded by olive branches draped with a banner reading: "Hello my poet, I remember your voice". While recovering from his wound he would write his play Les Mamelles de TirĂ©siasin which he coined the term 'Surrealism', aiding him in becoming one of the great influential figures of the surrealist+DADA art movements. Guillaume died of influenza during the Spanish Flu pandemic in 1918.
